Admission requirements

Ontario high school students

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Minimum of 6 Grade 12 university (U) preparation or university/college (M) preparation courses, which must include all required courses as specified for each program.
  • Overall average of 80% on the best 6 Grade 12 courses, including required courses. Higher averages are required for admission to programs in which the demand for places by qualified applicants exceeds the number of places available.
  • Specific course requirements and recommendations as listed in the program requirements section.
  • Repeated courses may be taken into consideration depending on the program.
  • If your first language is not English, see Waterloo's English language requirements.

In order to be considered for admission for winter 2014, you must

  • have completed your Ontario Secondary School requirements no later than December 2, 2013;
  • provide your final transcripts no later than December 2, 2013.

In order to be considered for admission for spring 2014, you must

  • have completed your Ontario Secondary School requirements no later than April 4, 2014;
  • provide your final transcripts no later than April 7, 2014.

All other applicants

  • Please see the applying to Waterloo section of this website for applicable admission requirements.
  • Repeated courses may be taken into consideration depending on the program.
  • If your first language is not English, see Waterloo's English language requirements.

The Admission Committees make their decisions based on a review of your academic records to date, including your high school marks and post-secondary marks if applicable.

Special consideration will be given to your marks in courses required for admission.

How to apply

Applications to Waterloo are handled by the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC).

  • For current Ontario secondary school students, the application will be available starting October 2, 2013.
  • For students not currently studying in an Ontario Secondary School, the application will be available starting September 17, 2013.

NOTE:  If you are a non-Canadian citizen studying in or outside of Canada, you can apply now by completing the online International Application for January entry.

Once we receive notification from OUAC that you've applied to Waterloo, we'll acknowledge receipt of your application via email beginning October 21, 2013.

Note: Please ensure that the email address you specify on your application is accurate. We'll be sending you important information by email.

*Note: Due to the very tight timelines for winter and spring admissions, you're encouraged to have your current and/or past school(s) submit your most recent grades, including mid-term marks, as soon as possible.

Offers of admission

Most of Waterloo's offers of admission will be made no later than December 13, 2013 for the winter 2014 term, and no later than April 14, 2014 for the spring 2014 term.

You'll be notified of your admission decision via email, and an official offer package will follow in the mail.

Accepting your Offer of Admission

You'll have 2 weeks from date of your offer to accept your Offer of Admission. Instructions will be included in your offer email.

Selecting your classes

Within 3 working days of accepting your offer, you'll have access to Quest – Waterloo's online enrollment system – and will be able to set up your Quest account. Once you've set up your account, you'll use Quest to enroll in your classes.

Once you've accepted your Offer of Admission, you can contact your faculty's Undergraduate Office to discuss your class selection.

Paying your fees

After you've enrolled in your classes, you'll be able to view your fee statement in Quest. Please note that your fee statement is available only online; you will not receive a separate statement in the mail.

Detailed fee payment instructions can be found on the Finance Office - Student Accounts website.

  • Spring 2014 - April 28, 2014

Housing & residence

Residence for the winter and spring term is not guaranteed; however, a limited number of spaces may be available.

Scholarships & financial aid

A limited number of entrance scholarships are available for the winter and spring terms; an application is not required.

Financial aid through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is available to Ontario residents only. If you're not an Ontario resident, please check with your home government to find out whether financial aid is available.
