Maybe you’re at university to feed your mind; maybe you like music, art, and poetry to feed your soul; and maybe you volunteer to help feed the world, but we know that feeding your body is high on your list of priorities, too!!

Food is kind of in an important class all by itself!  I’m personally into eating in the cafeteria – it’s like having every meal in a restaurant!! But my friend lives in a suite-style residence, and what he’s learned is that burning supper can hurt your ears when the smoke detector goes off! He’s getting better, though, and last week he invited us in for homemade pasta! - Alex

Whether you live in a traditional-style residence and eat in the cafeteria like Alex, or you cook for yourself in a suite-style residence or off-campus, you’ll need to know what’s available.

How to Eat in Residence

How you get your meals depends on where you live:
  • Required Meal Plans – In Ron Eydt Village or Village 1, you’ll have to purchase a mandatory meal plan, and you can eat in the residence cafeteria or at any other UW Food Services outlet on campus.
  • Optional Meal Plans or your own cooking – in Columbia Lake Village-South, Mackenzie King Village or UW Place, you’ll have the option of purchasing a meal plan to use at Food Services outlets and some locations off campus. Or you can cook for yourself. And if you don’t have your own car, you can take the grocery shuttle to the supermarket to buy your weekly groceries.
  • Meals Included – At Conrad Grebel, Renison, St. Jerome’s, and St. Paul’s, your meals are included in your residence fees, and you eat in the residence cafeteria.

Off-campus eating

If you’re living off campus, you can cook for yourself, or you can purchase an Off-Campus Meal Plan.
