Mechatronics systems are used nearly everywhere in society. They range from CD and DVD players to computer hard disks, anti-lock braking systems, and "fly-by-wire" control systems for commercial jets. Each of these products is essentially mechanical in nature, but could not function without electrical and computer control systems.
Mechatronics engineering combines mechanical engineering, electronics, control engineering, and computer science to design systems such as those listed above.
Waterloo's is the first undergraduate Mechatronics program in Canada. You'll find an emphasis on teamwork and practical applications throughout the program and especially in your design project courses.
With 2 years of paid co-op experience, you'll get a head start on your career through the valuable skills you'll develop, the contacts you'll make, and the money you earn through your 6 co-op work terms.
