About the AIF

When we make our admissions decisions, we look at other factors in addition to grades. You can use the Admission Information Form (AIF) to

  • tell us more about yourself
  • tell us about your extra-curricular activities
  • explain any special circumstances that may have affected your grades and/or which you would like taken into consideration during the admissions process
  • brag a little!

Tip: Prepare a draft copy of your AIF on paper or in a Word document, so you can check for proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar. The Admissions team will be reviewing your AIF to learn more about you and to see how well you write, so be sure to put your best foot forward!

Submit your AIF (only for students applying to start in September)

  • Your AIF is available on Quest – Waterloo's online student information system.
  • Note: If you've already viewed your application on Quest, then log in to Quest and begin at Step 3.
  • You can watch our videos on creating your Quest account or checking to see if we've received your documents.

Step 1 - WatIAM (You need to do this only once)

Before you can log in to Quest, you need to create your user ID and password by activating your account on WatIAM. You can watch our video on creating your Quest account.

To activate your account, you’ll need the following information:

  • Your last name/family name
  • Your date of birth
  • Your Waterloo ID number, which was included in your acknowledgment email that was sent after we received your application (Subject line was "Your next steps in Waterloo’s admissions process")

To activate your account, select "Need to activate your account?" on the WatIAM login page. Enter the information requested and follow the steps to obtain your user ID and password.

Important: You will need your user ID and password in order to log into Quest to complete your AIF and check the status of your application. Be sure to keep this information in a safe and accessible place.

Step 2 - Log in to Quest

Once you’ve activated your user ID and password, you’ll be able to log in to Quest and submit your Admission Information Form or check your application status.

  • Quest main page
  • Select Applicants (in the left-hand menu)
  • Select Quest login (from the drop-down menu)
  • Enter your user ID and password

Note: To log into Quest, you will need your user ID – not your Waterloo ID number. Your user ID will be up to 8 characters and will be a combination of your first and last name. Your Waterloo ID number is an 8-digit number that starts with a 2 and that was sent to you in the email acknowledging your application to Waterloo.

Step 3 - Student Center

In Quest – view your application and access the AIF link.

  • Select Admissions from the listings in the centre of the page.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the Admission Information Form link.

View step-by-step screen shot instructions for Step 3 – Student Center.

Step 4 - AIF

Begin completing and submitting your answers to the AIF questions by the deadline specified above.
