Frequently Asked Questions about becoming an ambassador

1. I would like to be a Student Ambassador in fall 2012. When can I submit my application?

Applications for Student Ambassador positions for fall 2012 - spring 2013 will be available in February 2012. Please check back at that time.

2. When are applications due?

Student Ambassador Applications are due by 4:00 pm on March 23, 2012.

3. What are the qualifications?

The Selection Committee wants to build a team of Student Ambassadors who are passionate about Waterloo and who love their Waterloo experience.

We specifically look for candidates with

  • excellent public speaking and communication skills
  • proven leadership ability
  • good judgement
  • and most importantly, a sincere desire to provide outstanding customer service.

4. What do Student Ambassadors do?

The University of Waterloo's Visitors Centre, which is part of the Marketing and Undergraduate Recruitment team, is looking for students who 

  • are enthusiastic and energetic
  • think Waterloo is an amazing school
  • have excellent public speaking abilities
  • have been involved in various student-related activities at Waterloo
  • relate well to students and their parents.

Marketing and Undergraduate Recruitment is a team-centered environment. Our staff work independently and with one another to achieve the common goals of attracting high-quality students to the University of Waterloo and providing exceptional services and resources for both prospective and current students, University of Waterloo faculty and staff, and other visitors to the campus.

5. How much are Student Ambassadors paid?

The salary for this position is $10.50 per hour, and work hours vary each week.

6. When do interviews take place?

Interviews will take place between March 2012 and April 2012.

7. How does the selection process work?

In March of each year, Student Ambassadors are hired for the fall, winter, and spring terms.

The selection process is comprised of several stages:

  • A PDF application form will be available beginning in February 2012 for you to fill out and complete.
  • All applications need to be dropped off in person at the Visitors Centre in South Campus Hall.
  • Following the screening of applications, candidates are short-listed and offered a personal interview.
  • All candidates are also required to participate in a group interview.
  • Final decisions will be made following the personal interview process.
